For the first time in the 38-year history of the Illinois High School Association Girls Bowling State Finals, the first place team trophy will travel south of Peoria. That's because the Collinsville Kahoks knocked down a state-record 12,450 pins this past weekend at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford to win the school's first state championship in any sport since the boys soccer team won it all in 1992. In addition to the team's success, senior Frannie Steiner became the third Metro East girls bowler since 2000 to win the individual championship after rolling a 2,756 series. Her score is the second-highest total ever tallied since girls individual champions began being crowned in 1980.
The girls were honored with a parade and pep assembly Tuesday afternoon.
